Company Bios

Amy Kohler, MA, DTR

Amy is Co-Director of Wings Dance Company. Amy has a MA in dance-movement therapy from Columbia College, a BA in Psychology from the University of IL at Chicago and is a graduate of the Boitsov Classical Ballet School. Her professional dance experience includes Boitsov Classical Ballet, Ballet Iowa, Lyric Opera Ballet, Ballet Chicago, and Ballet Theatre of Chicago. She has toured internationally with physicist and author Ken Laws doing presentations on the Phsyics of Dance. She recently began training with Lori Belilove to teach the dance technique of Isadora Duncan . Currently she also teaches at the Fletcher School of Dance and performs with the Asheville Ballet and Ann Dunn and Dancers. She has worked with dance-movement therapy with children with autism and behavior disorders. She is fascinated by the possibilities of using performance and choreography as a therapeutic tool. She is interested in doing work on the border between art and healing. Her passion is to use dance as a way to inspire and heal


Lara Polsky

Lara is Co-Director of Wings Dance Company. Lara owns a movement practice called Lara's Integrative Movement incorporating Pilates, Feldenkrais, and energy healing. She guides and helps others towards self-healing including those suffering from back and knee pain, scoliosis, MS, fibromyalgia, and Parkinson's. Lara's performance experience includes the Boitsov Classical Ballet Company, Wings Dance Company & the Asheville Ballet. Lara has a BS in Mathematics from the University of IL at Chicago. She is also a graduate of the Boitsov Classical Ballet School and is certified in Brennan Healing Science - an intensive four-year energy healing program at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in New York. Lara believes movement experienced experientially and through performance is a powerful healing force physically, emotionally and energetically and continues to study the impact of movement for healing. She loves using movement to empower others to take care of themselves and self-heal.


Jodie C. Toole, MA

Jodie has a MA in dance-movement therapy from Columbia College and a BFA from the School of The Art Institute of chicago. Jodie began her dance training at the Boitsov Classical Ballet School where she graduated in December 1998. She has performed with the Boitsov Classical Ballet Company and is a founding dancer with Wings Dance Company. Jodie completed her thesis summer 2000 on the study of dance-movement therapy and how it affects the body/mind continum. Her vision is to see art and dance become an integral part of everyday life. She is inspired by the possibilities of combining dance-movement therapy with art, healing, and other therapeutic movement modalities.


Barrie Barton, MA

Presently teaches dance in the public schools in Asheville, North Carolina. She received a BA from the University of California at Santa Barbara and later received her MA in Education from Vermont College. Barrie performed with Reperatory West Dance Company, Wall Street Danceworks and Ann Dunn and Dancers. She continues to perform liturgical dance at Jubilee, a faith community in Asheville, North Carolina. Barrie joined Wings Dance Company in the fall of 2002.


Darin G. Kohler

Is a singer/songwriter. He has been an important part of Wings Dance Company performing and traveling with the company since 1999. He believes in helping others release, heal and transform emotions through musical expression. He has two CDs he has recorded "Uh-huh" and most recently a CD with songs for peace.
